Rachel Turner is an artist who employs forms of installation in her practice including site-reliant works that explore possibilities of function, movement and construction. She has a strong interest in the mechanical and frequently plays upon a primitive approach to invention in her work.
By exploring the fundamentals of various technologies and mechanisms she devises her own new, elaborate alternatives. Turner’s work evolves from a combination of detailed drawing, considered use of material and a concern for DIY, low-tech aesthetics. She also uses film to create Kinetic Diagrams that record site – reliant works in motion, detailing their construction and environment.
