Tess Glen

Visual Art

Tess Glen is a writer, artist and illustrator currently living and working in Edinburgh.

Tess Glen studied Painting at ECA where she won the James Cumming Award for Draughtsmanship and was selected for the RSA New Contemporaries. She is currently completing a term at the Royal Drawing School in London. Drawing is at the core of her work and using this she looks to find different ways to tell stories. Bringing together text, images and objects, she creates installations often reminiscent of domestic interiors. Hidden Door has offered Tess the exciting opportunity to create an installation in a setting already imbued with narrative and history which she hopes to draw from.

For Hidden Door 2018, Tess Glen turned one of the dressing rooms at Leith Theatre into a lovers’ retreat: with their coffee cups on the table and their drawings pinned to the walls, one feels as if one has stumbled into a fragile, private world. Inspired by the theatrical history of the venue; she built a fictional interior to create a setting ingrained with stories and characters.
