This night is all about having fun – Hidden Door will never have had a party quite like a Crystal Fighters party!
“The best live band in the world” (according to their fans anyway) aim to lift the roof off the Leith Theatre with costumes and glitter, and a combination of electronic and traditional Basque instruments that make the ultimate euphoric party music.
Support from local act Midi Paul and up and coming Low Island will set the scene and get the vibe going.
Exuberant, extravagant, ecstatic – all the words appropriate for describing Crystal Fighters are over the top, because they are! Half Spanish, half British, they make anthem party music from electronic, rock and traditional Spanish instruments. There is nothing like them, but maybe something like early Vampire Weekend mixed with the best bits of Hot Chip and the most upbeat LCD Soundsystem? With a bit of flaming Lips for the live show…
A perfect cross over between Indie and Electronica, this is a band capturing a new-feeling sound that has its roots in bands like the Foals, Everything Everything and Bloc Party, but daring to edge it closer to the excitement and euphoria of music more associated with clubs and dance.
Emotive music that brings together moods and feelings you might associate with staring out the window on a long epic journey across the wilderness or through the backstreets of a foreign mega-city, this is build up music, with meticulously crafted beats, driving onwards.
There’s a bit of Hudson Mohawke in here, and if you wish that Four Tet or Gold Panda were just a bit more into mean hip hop beats, then this might just be the thing…
